Having painted throughout my life, illustrated books, and worked in the creative industries, it wasn’t until I returned to university to earn a first-class degree in Painting and Drawing in 2015 that I decided to fully dedicate myself to her artistic career.
I have always been inspired by the landscape, particularly the reflections in the lakes and waterways that surround me. My professional journey began with large-scale paintings of tree reflections, using a mix of oils and various mediums to achieve the subtle, watery textures I envisioned. However, my growing commitment to environmentally friendly practices and my desire to incorporate texture into my work led me to experiment with fabric hardening materials. This exploration allowed me to integrate natural elements like grasses, brackens, and leaves directly into my canvases. By building up layers with paints and mica powders, I strive to enhance the organic beauty of nature in each piece.
To align with sustainable art practices, I now incorporate natural pigments, such as walnut inks, and use non-toxic varnishes to preserve my creations. My current work is highly textural, blending recycled and natural materials to create unique scenes and abstract compositions that highlight the often-overlooked beauty of our local landscapes."
My techniques and environmentally conscious approach reflect my dedication to not only portraying nature but also preserving it through my art.
